For my Honours Project this year, I decided with my team to create a Sci-fi Tactical Turn-based game with Rogue-like elements. This is a small collection of concept art I've done for the game so far, as the game is quite far into development. I was the main Concept Artist and 2D Game Artist so there is a lot of work that I am unable to show, but I have compiled some of my favourites. I was in charge of the Art Direction, Character and Environment Concepts and Overall Feel of the game. The Art style is simple and deliberate, following a strong comic book style inspired by Graphic Novels such as Sin City and Hellboy. I chose strong colours to hint at the Sci-Fi elements in the story and environment.
This project was very difficult for everyone involved, and we had to constantly make changes so each team member could progress steadily, such as changing the game from a 2D space to a 3D one, which meant changing our workflows and changing the look of the game.
We also aimed for a Sci-Fi horror theme to begin with, but this needed to be slightly suppressed, due to the time restraints and team fatigue.
I was also unable to explore as much as I wanted due to the heavy responsibilities as a 2D generalist, so a lot of development into designs needed to be cut, but for what I was able to work with, I am very proud of the results!
